Construction Laborer
About SailFuture
SailFuture is a St. Petersburg nonprofit serving about 200 children and families a year, from foster care and residential programs to international sailing expeditions and an entrepreneurship high school. We are a small agency with a "whatever it takes" mentality. We build things for our kids, and we want people who will help build them right.
The Role
Join our construction crew as a Construction Laborer. You will report to the Construction Foreman and work on building and repair projects across our campus and program sites. You will do the physical work that keeps a jobsite moving, learn the trades from experienced builders, and take on more skilled work as you grow.
Our jobsites include school campuses, so you will often work in the presence of students. You may get chances to show them how a skill is done. We want someone who shows up on time, works hard, stays safe and sets the example for what a good day of work looks like.
Responsibilities
Carry out daily tasks assigned by the Construction Foreman
Load, unload, move and stage materials, tools and equipment
Assist carpenters and skilled trades with framing, decking, dock work, finish work and repairs
Dig, demo, haul, grade and clean up the jobsite daily
Operate hand tools and power tools safely, and learn new equipment as trained
Follow all jobsite safety rules, wear required PPE and take part in the daily toolbox talk
Measure, cut and fit materials as directed
Keep tools and equipment organized, clean and in working order
Report damaged equipment, material shortages and safety concerns to the Foreman right away
Work respectfully and patiently with young people who join the crew
Take on more skilled tasks over time as you show ability and reliability
