Job Description
The SailFuture Maritime Academy is a private, nonprofit high school for low-income families and youth in foster care in St Petersburg, FL. The school serves students in grades 9th - 12th who have become disengaged in traditional public school settings.
The Construction coach works with the Director of Social Enterprises to lead students through on-the-job training experiences and hands-on projects that teach fundamental math, science, and communication skills.
The ideal candidate is an experienced tradesman who is passionate about teaching and passing down their knowledge to the next generation.
Responsibilities:
- Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm
- Lead 9th grade students in groups of 8 through all-day, hands-on projects that teach fundamental math, science, and communication skills.
- Help ensure the safe operation and use of all construction materials
- Ensure students uphold community standards in the classroom and around jobsites
- Create a space for students to fail forward in order to acquire construction-specific skill set
- Able to provide real-time, constructive feedback for 8 students to help student growth
- Provide individualized input for each student in term-end review meetings
- Submit daily professionalism score for each student using provided rubric and guidelines
- Provide weekly narrative feedback regarding student production in the construction lab
- Assist with supervision of students during after school program from 3-5pm
Qualifications:
- Has a successful track record working with at-risk youth
- 2+ years of construction experience
- Passionate about reimagining how and when construction skills are taught
- Committed to engaging technical, hands-on learning
- Inspired by the SailFuture Mission
- Flexible and able to thrive in a start-up environment
- Entrepreneurial in their thinking and a creative problem solver
- Leads by example and be excited to work in the trenches
Compensation:
- $45,000 - $55,000 annual salary depending on experience
- 401k with 6% match
