STEM Instructor

SailFuture is seeking a full-time STEM instructor passionate about project-based, interdisciplinary education in order to empower at-risk students to achieve economic freedom and social mobility. 

SailFuture Academy invites applications for a full-time faculty member in the STEM (Position Start: July 2021). The STEM Department (combining Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) represents SailFuture Academy’s dedication to interdisciplinary integration and practical, student-centered learning. 

This position will be responsible for the implementation of a pre-designed, comprehensive curriculum, student feedback, and classroom management for 3 classes of 16 students.  The ideal candidate will charismatically engage students in hands-on learning experiences examining the significance of STEM in daily, practical application. Additionally, this position aims to assist students in deepening their mastery of computational and reasoning skills while at the same time understanding how and when STEM principles and concepts can be applied to other areas of study. 
 

About SailFuture Academy
SailFuture Academy is a purposefully disruptive educational model based in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Our mission is to empower at-risk students to achieve economic freedom and social mobility through an equitable and exceptional school model driven by character development and pragmatic, project-based learning. In other words, we teach students how to solve real-world problems by practically applying the skills and knowledge learned through dynamic classroom activities in real-world culinary, construction, and maritime settings.    

SailFuture Academy operates on a year-round calendar with 5 terms.  This calendar provides meaningful breaks to students and faculty throughout the year, as well as ample planning time for faculty to regroup and prepare high-quality and individualized lesson plans for their students.  Students attend class for 8-9 weeks each term which is followed by a 2- week break for students and a week of protected break time and a week of protected planning time for faculty.

Duties Include:

  • Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm
  • Lead 9th grade students in groups of 16 through hands-on instruction that teach STEM skills.
  • Help ensure a safe classroom environment, both physically and intellectually
  • Ensure students uphold community standards in the classroom and within our community
  • Create a space for students to fail forward in order to improve their mastery of target objectives
  • Able to provide real-time, constructive feedback for 16 students to help student growth
  • Provide individualized input for each student in term-end review meetings 
  • Submit daily professionalism score for each student using provided rubric and guidelines
  • Provide weekly narrative feedback regarding student engagement in class
  • Lead a crew of 8 students at the end of each day 
  • Establish meaningful relationships and build trust with students to assist in improving their behavior, educational performance, and social relationships
  • Lead a crew of 8 students in an advisory session at the end of each day

Compensation:

  • $45,000 annual salary
  • 401k with 6% match
  • $250 monthly health insurance contribution

Initial interviews will take place by video conference with finalists invited to campus for an in-person interview and teaching demonstration.  Additionally, finalists will be asked to submit at least three references and/or letters of recommendation.
