Business Manager

An innovator in the child welfare and juvenile justice field, SailFuture leverages sailing, therapeutic services, long-term housing, and experiential education to alter the life trajectories of some of society’s highest-risk teens.

SailFuture operates as a lean and nimble organization. The Business Manager is the sole administrator for a team of 30 professionals working in five departments.

The Business Manger acts as the coordinator for accounting, HR, billing, and compliance functions across the organization. The position reports directly to our Founder and CEO.

  • Accounting (10 hrs / week)
    • Weekly Credit Card Reconciliation 
    • Monthly Bank Reconciliation
    • Coordinate Accounts Receivable
    • Coordinate Accounts Payable
    • Receive, vet, approve, and process all employee reimbursements
    • Receive, vet, approve, and process employee mileage payments
  • Medicaid Billing for Mental Health Services (5 hrs / week)
    • Prepare monthly billing documents and submit to the appropriate medicaid managing entities 
    • Manage and coordinate all billing disputes
  • Child Welfare Compliance and Documentation (10 hrs / week)
    • Monitor and Submit weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance for SailFuture Group Homes
      • Weekly Census Reports
      • Monthly Medication Logs
      • Monthly Progress Reports
      • Quarterly Staff Rosters
      • Quarterly Staff Training Logs
      • Quarterly Profit & Loss Statements
    • Manage compliance for Case Management Division
      • Client Resource Records for all clients under SF Case Management 
      • Monthly and annual reporting as needed
    • Prepare for and coordinate Annual Re-Licensure process for Group Homes and Case Management Division  
  • Human Resources (10 hrs / week)
    • Manage and run bi-weekly payroll
    • Maintain schedule for employee reviews and send reminders to program directors
    • Coordinate and manage background screens across the organization
    • Coordinate and manage new employee onboarding 
    • Coordinate training schedules
  • Fundraising and special projects (10 hrs / week)
    • Assist the CEO with targeted fundraising efforts throughout the year
    • Individual and corporate donor prospecting 
    • Grant Writing 
    • Grant Compliance
    • Special Projects
    • Accreditation Management
    • Vehicle and vessel registration
    • Manage incoming mail


  • Must be technologically savvy and highly comfortable working in a digital environment (Platforms: Salesforce, Slack, Notion, Google Docs, Google Admin, Nest, etc.)
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently 
  • Problem solver with strong critical thinking skills
  • Previous accounting experience, preferably with Quickbooks Online 
  • Detail oriented
  • Meticulously organized 
  • Ambition to learn and grow
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


  • $35,000 - $45,000 depending on experience 
  • 401k with 6% match (eligible after 90 days)
  • $250 / month health insurance contribution (eligible after 90 days)
  • 10 days PTO (eligible after 90 days)
