Mental Health Counselor

Help youth overcome complex trauma through non-traditional, long-term therapeutic support at home, at sea, and at school.

Who we're looking for

SailFuture’s Mental Health Counselor’s primary responsibility is to build meaningful and impactful relationships with the youth in SailFuture’s care. This position includes traditional mental health service delivery responsibilities, as well as non-traditional responsibilities as part of the large SailFuture continuum of care.

This position will provide mental health and behavioral health services to up to 20 youth in SailFuture’s continuum of care. This position will work out of the SailFuture school, SailFuture’s Group Homes, and SailFuture’s sailing vessel. This is a salaried position and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 therapeutic services to up to 20 youth per week (1-hour session)
  • Develop treatment plans
  • Develop individual behavior plans
  • Coordinate and manage delivery of behavior management services in group homes
  • Provide training and youth-specific feedback to staff in school, residential, sailing, and job training departments
  • Supervise bachelor’s level practitioners and certified techs
  • Coordinate and process medicaid billing for BHOS (Codes: H2019 HO, H2019 HM, and H2019 HN)
Additional Responsibilities
  • Be a fully integrated team player across all areas of the SailFuture continuum (sailing, school, job training, residential, and mental health)
  • Participate in SailFuture sailing journeys throughout the Caribbean up to 12-days every 2-months
  • Work 1 shift per week at a SailFuture Group Home
  • Assist with school operations and academic instruction
  • Assist with job training operations and vocational instruction
  • Work with the case management, education, and residential teams to create individual treatment plans for all youth
  • Other responsibilities as determined by Executive Director
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree, or higher, from an Accredited College or University in related field. Current Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker or as a Mental Health Counselor.
  • Team player committed to doing whatever it takes for youth in their care
  • Experience working with at-risk youth, specifically teenagers
  • Excellent communicator and problem solver
  • Passion for adventure
  • Sailing experience a plus, but not required
  • First Aid / CPR (provided by SailFuture, if not already certified)
  • De-escalation tactics (provided by SailFuture)
  • Behavior management (provided by SailFuture)
  • Risk management (provided by SailFuture)
  • Offshore sailing competency course (provided by SailFuture)
  • Lifeguard certification (provided by SailFuture)
Compensation
  • $45,000 annual salary
