Help lost teens find purpose and direction through structured 45-day service learning expeditions at sea.
SailFuture’s Captain will be responsible for vessel operations during service learning programs, as well as all ship operations, training, safety, vessel maintenance and management throughout the year.
The captain will work with a teacher and counselor to lead six 45-day service learning programs per year. Six youth will be on the boat during each trip. The itinerary will cover the coast of Florida and the Central Caribbean.
Prior to departure, the captain will help lead training programs to teach youth and staff the fundamentals of sailing, including but not limited to, points of sail, vessel operations, intro to ship electronics, anchoring, docking, emergency procedures, and safety policies.
The Captain will have their own shared quarters on the boat, separate from the living quarters of youth. Between each service learning program, the Captain can expect 14-days of flex-time where the boat will be used for donor-development and community benefit activities.
